New Mortgage Protection Services card

mortgage data cardToday I received a new, smaller mortgage protection invitation from

Mortgage Protection Services
Processing Center
PO Box 661028
Arcadia, CA 91066-9812

They had my lender on above my name on the address as usual, but this time they called it was small and titled "MORTGAGE DATA CARD".

"Please provide information on your affordable mortgage protection life insurance program which can complete my mortgage payments in the event of my death."

Here's the new interesting thing - my credit is frozen, but they still have an accurate, updated mortgage balance listed for the amount. I wasn't even able to get my credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com with my credit frozen unless I thawed it.

I know my mortgage is public record, but I have a feeling the insurance company is getting their information from more than just the county.

It has been about 3 months since I used the advice on the Remove Me! page, which succeeded in cutting the mail out till now. If anyone has opt-out tips on getting this new one to stop, please drop them here.

Here is the real scoop that should answer a lot of questions for you guys. These are sent out by a 3rd party vendor which, in turn, sells the completed cards to life insurance agents in that particular area. They don't have any contact info on them because they do not know which agency they are going to sell that particular card to at the time of mailing.

The reason you get these even with frozen credit is because any mortgage deed filing is public record easily obtained through the courthouse or any title company in town.

As far as the "protection" offered.... it is simply a life insurance policy designed to cover the balance of the mortgage in the event of you or your spouses death. As a general rule if the policy is under 100k (rare) just brief medical records and an oral swap (to check for tobacco use) are required. Over 100k and you are usually looking at more in depth medical records along with bloodwork. All of that is paid by the insurance company.

Looks like these do not die with age....I got the same card in the mail after refinancing on our house only 3 weeks ago!!

Any solicitation offering to sell insurance that has no company name, no phone number, no website, no licensing or legal disclaimers is obviously a scam. As far as I'm concerned, I'd be better off just going down to see my State Farm agent, you know, someone who is willing to actually tell you their company name and phone number.

It is not a scam, I am an Insurance professional and those cards, are send to you buy your mortgage company, not by an insurance company.

I received the same offer, the no contact information was a red flag for me. This is a big scam, and I wish it could be stopped.
I'm grateful for the computer technology. Lets keep up the good work of posting this kind of activity.

I just received the same envelope of info as you have posted above. I noticed this post is about a year old... I guess I just wanted to let you know these guys are still active. I found this page looking for info on who sent this.

This sound weird to me, our data are definitely available in this system, it's something like an extra safety measure for them, whenever something goes wrong they want to be prepared.

Any idea how reputable this company is and how much they charge for the "protection" they offer?

We just closed on our house two weeks ago, and already I have 8 different letters from different addresses offering to protect us. The fact that they don't provide any information about their company such as the name of the company and their telephone number suggests that they are not reputable at all. You should not send any of the information they are requesting.

hey the company that uses these cards is very reputable, this is just a way for them to help people out who actually need life insurance. If you want i can help you, I've worked with these and it actually works and its honest.

It is obviously a scam!

I must tell you that it's not, If you will call me and set an appointment with me, I will prove to you that people like me are here to help you (a family) to protect their most important asset, just give me 30min... of your time to meet, that's I'm asking.

Ok but before I call you to set up appt, just tell me what are the prerequisites for obtaining this protection? Simple question....

I know all the Credit Card companies that keep sending me offers on a daily basis are trying to help me, all the Mortgage Protection Companies who send me about 2-3 offers a week are trying to help me. The reason why people like you are not trusted is because if you would be honest and professional you wouldn’t hide under a BLANK letter or a very confusing “MORTGAGE PROTECTION SERVICES” label.
Since you know so much about me, just call me up and ask me for 15 minutes of my time, if you truly mean to help the public let me see you donate your commission check to the Red Cross or to the Homeless.
